USI's Radio & Television Programs earns top rankings from the Broadcasting Education Association

The University of Southern Indiana Radio and Television (RTV) program was named 39th Top Winning Overall Program and 7th Audio Program in the U.S. in the first-ever ranking conducted by the Broadcasting Education Association (BEA). The program also ranked in the top 30 for Sports Broadcasting.

The rankings are founded on results from the BEA Festival of Media Arts, an international media competition focused on student and faculty creative endeavors. The rankings are not an overall evaluation of an academic program, but rather an evaluation of the quality and consistency of students’ creative works produced at one institution compared to those at other institutions.

“These rankings are fantastic and just show the great Radio and TV program we have at the University of Southern Indiana,” says John Morris, Instructor of Radio and Television and General Manager at 95.7 The Spin. “Most people don't know that our students and our program are on par with other ‘big name’ schools.”

USI’s Radio and Television major prepares students for the media industry by providing a foundation in media production, analysis, and theory, along with hands-on training in creating, editing, and producing digital media. Students learn how to produce and distribute audio and video programs and receive on-air experiences.

“We have won many individual awards in audio and video at USI, but what makes these special is that it is a ranking of our students' work over the past five years,” Morris adds. “This isn't a flash in the pan, but evidence of sustained success. It shows how strong our students are today as well as those that came before. I look at it even as a bigger picture. While this award is based on the success of those most recent, it could not have happened without the work of the students before that. They are the ones who have built the expectation of excellence and the willingness to work hard to achieve it.”
