Description

Presentation:

Prototyping for Success: How to Move Your Invention Forward with Confidence

Speaker:

Cristian Ramos

Cristian Ramos, founder of Unbox Development ( https://protect.checkpoint.com/v2/r01/___https://unboxdevelopment.com/___.YzJ1OnN0YXRlb2ZpbmRpYW5hOmM6bzozYTUzZjdlMDZlNzRkNmQ5OTYwOGJmMjcyZTdjYTNlYjo3OmI0OTY6MTYwZGI0M2M4OGQ1Yjc5NmQ4OTQ1ZjUzNWMwYmYxNDBkNjAyMDA2MjQ2YWE5ODU3YTdkZjU5YWJjYTUwNmU3NDp0OlQ6Tg ), is an experienced product designer, entrepreneur and consultant who has spent his career transforming bold ideas into functional prototypes and market-ready products. With hands-on expertise in 3D CAD design, rapid prototyping, contract manufacturing support and design for mass production, Cristian helps inventors turn early sketches and concepts into working models that can be tested, refined and scaled.

In this presentation, Cristian will share practical strategies for getting unstuck in the prototype stage—whether you’re struggling with design choices, fabrication methods or scaling for production. Drawing from his work in industries ranging from aerospace and automotive to consumer products and custom systems, Cristian will walk attendees through common pitfalls, cost-effective prototyping options and the importance of iteration in moving an invention forward.

Attendees will learn:

How to approach prototyping step-by-step (from CAD to bench models to manufacturable designs)

Which materials and processes best fit different invention types

How to avoid common mistakes that waste time and money

When and how to engage outside prototyping and manufacturing resources

Cristian’s blend of creativity, engineering discipline and real-world manufacturing experience gives him a unique perspective to help inventors at every stage of development. Whether you are at the napkin-sketch stage or refining your second prototype, his talk will give you tools and insights to take the next step with confidence.

Question & Answer Session

During the first half hour from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM, successful inventors / product developers will be available, via Zoom, to answer your invention questions. So be sure to come with your quesions.

The Technology Interest Group is a bi-monthly (twice per month on the second and fourth Wednesdays 6pm-8pm) meeting for students, hobbyists and professionals to discuss technology projects and ideas in a supportive and social atmosphere. The focus is on interpersonal networking, sharing information in order to build skills, and advancing personal/professional projects. Participants should not disclose confidential information to the group as there are no expressed or implied non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).

Each meeting will have a designated group leader who will facilitate:

  • A featured speaker to present their project or other topic for up to 30 minutes (including Q&A), and
  • Unstructured conversations at tables around the room based upon those present and the topics of interest that emerge.

Potential topics of interest:

  • Robotics
  • Internet of Things (IOT)
  • Arduino, ESP32, or other microprocessors
  • RaspberryPi or other single board computers
  • Mobile App integration
  • Cloud/Web integration
  • Alexa / Home Assistant / Siri integration
  • Prototyping
  • Circuit boards
  • 3D printed parts and enclosures
  • Building entrepreneurial skills
  • Taking an idea to the next step
