Purdue MEP: Productive Conflict Resolution Workshop

Thursday, June 11, 2026 (1:00 PM - 5:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

Productive Conflict Resolution

Purdue MEP Workshop

Conflict is a natural part of any workplace. However, many leaders feel uncomfortable addressing conflict because they lack a clear process for managing it effectively. When handled well, conflict can become an opportunity to improve communication, strengthen relationships, and solve problems more effectively.

This workshop will help participants better understand why conflict occurs and provide practical strategies for addressing it in a constructive and productive way. Through discussion and guided exercises, participants will learn how to manage emotions, choose the right approach for different conflict situations, and develop skills that lead to positive outcomes for individuals and teams.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Explain why conflict occurs
  • Recognize effective and ineffective ways of handling conflict
  • Apply the correct conflict style to use when in various conflict situations
  • Apply knowledge of the three stages of conflict to prevent unnecessary escalations
  • Explain how listening styles can affect conflict resolution
  • List best practices for mediating and directly confronting employees

Intended Audience:
New and experienced managers, supervisors, and team leaders who want to strengthen their ability to handle conflict in a constructive way. This workshop is also valuable for individuals who regularly address workplace conflict and are looking for practical strategies to improve outcomes.
