Evansville Day School Educates Families Raising Kids in a Cyber Age

Evansville Day School will host national expert, renowned educator, author and visionary leader Katie Koestner on Tuesday, April 12 for a day-long program. Koestner has lectured at over 5000 colleges and high schools in North America. She has appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine, on Oprah, CNN, MTV, MSNBC, NBC Nightly News, Good Morning America, and many other nationally televised programs. The program, sponsored by Dunn Hospitality Group, will feature age-appropriate sessions for students in Grades 4-12 during the school day to help them learn how to navigate cyber situations including understanding boundaries, cyber-civility, and digital citizenship.

Koestner’s day-long program culminates with a parent session titled, “Raising Kids in a Digital Era: Social Media, Gaming, Cell Phones, and Parenting Skills.” The program provides an analysis of research on teen technology experiences, work with over 800 schools, inside information directly from college admissions officers, social media companies and the FBI. It will cover everything from how graduate schools and future employers look at what teens are doing online to what forms of speech are not protected in Cyberspace.

“We are excited to bring this world-class speaker to our campus as a value-added educational experience for our students, our staff, and our families. This topic is something that children and parents are navigating at younger and younger ages, and we want to help support our families in that endeavor.”

Evansville Day School is the area’s only independent school, focused on a world-class education and preparing students for a successful life beyond the classroom by fostering skills such as balance, resilience, global mindedness, and entrepreneurial learning. Evansville Day School is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and is accredited by the Independent School Association of the Central States.
