eninearts - Aid Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is facing one of the worst economic downfalls since its independence from the United kingdom in 1948 with about 51 billion dollars in debt.

Since ending the 30-year civil war in 2009, a few of the main factors that caused this significant economic downfall were, the Easter church bombings that shook the nation in 2019, the Covid-19 in 2020, and the poor financial decisions and management by the monarchy government. These factors have caused immense pain and suffering to the people of Sri Lanka.

Two of Sri Lanka's primary avenues to receive foreign money are tourism and overseas employment, which contributes highly to foreign exchange. Tourism and the foreign exchange from overseas employment took a hard hit during Covid-19, causing the country not to have enough dollars to buy oil, gasoline, medication, and other essential needs.

Currently, People are suffering from an acute shortage of food, and the rising cost of living has caused the poverty levels to increase rapidly, people are in the dark with up to 10 hours of power outages every day due to the lack of oil in the country.

To make things worse, the shortage of most essential needs has caused people daily to stand in long lines for hours daily at gas stations and grocery stores around the island to buy their most critical needs.

Out of anger and frustration, despite race, color, and religion, with unity, the citizens of Sri Lanka have taken to the roads protesting and rioting to end the family-controlled government. They are hoping to find hope in these difficult times.

The newly appointed Sri Lankan central bank governor is kindly and desperately pleading with Sri Lankans living abroad and others out of goodwill to send dollars to save the nation from this ongoing economic crisis.

The Sri Lankans and other citizens worldwide are uniting to aid Sri Lanka at this time.
