Full Time Lifeguard - Ascension St. Vincent and Dunigan YMCA
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the patrons in the pool area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth
- Complete required abuse risk management training
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities & supervising youth
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements
- All duties of Lifeguard and Instructor
- Train and mentor Lifeguards and Instructors
- Work under direction of the Aquatics director to run monthly in-services on a rotating schedule
- Able to perform basic admin duties and be staff lead when Aquatic Director is on a scheduled leave
- Run Red Ball/Zone evaluation drills
- Troubleshoot minor chemical issues and complete water testing as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- A 40 hour work week is the expectation, but must work a minimum of 36 hours per week split evenly between the Ascension St. Vincent YMCA and the Dunigan Family YMCA
- While lifeguarding will be the primary function of this position, there will be an opportunity to teach swim lessons, private lessons, and water fitness classes based on the candidate's qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen and Blood Borne Pathogen training required within 60 days of employment
- Child Abuse Prevention training required before/on first day of working with consumers
- At least 18 years of age
- Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard
- Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor preferred (required within first 90 days)
- Certified YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor preferred (required within first 90 days)
- Certified Pool Operator preferred
- Pass a skills test upon hire including, but not limited to: 300-yard swim and submerged passive rescue
- Work for the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana or a reputable Aquatics facility for a minimum of 12 months and demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures

- The employee must be able to respond quickly to any emergency situation and be willing to administer any first aid or care under the scope of their training.
